HOW TO TRANSFER YOUR DNA RAW DATA TO ANOTHER SITE

During my DNA presentations and at the DNA Interest Group, I encourage AncestryDNA and FTDNA testers to transfer their DNA raw data to the third party site GEDMATCH.com.  There is no cost to this transfer - it is absolutely free!  Also when you transfer to GEDMATCH you will have additional tools available to analyze your test results and your DNA will be compared to an different database which will result in new DNA cousin matches.  This is an easy task to complete this transfer - but sometimes it is easy to get confused about how to do it.  I have have compiled instructions on how to make this transfer of either AncestryDNA or FTDNA to GEDMATCH from information on their websites.  Click on the link below that applies to what you want to do to download a pdf file of the instructions:
Ancestry.com DNA upload to GEDMATCH
FTDNA upload to GEDMATCH

Also, if you have tested with Ancestry and would like to transfer your DNA to FTDNA to compare to the testers in their data base and utilize their tools to analyze your test results, the instructions for doing this can be found by clicking on the link below.
Ancestry.com DNA upload to FTDNA
NOTE! THE TRANSFER OF ANCESTRY TO FTDNA IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ANCESTRY KITS THAT WERE COMPLETED AFTER  APRIL 2016.  IF THIS CHANGES I WILL POST ON THIS BLOG
This is "FREE" transfer, but to utilize the tools and be able to communicate with your matches, there is a one time fee of $39.

If you have any questions please email me or comment on this post.

Happy DNA cousin hunting.
