RELATIONSHIP PREDICTION UTILITY

OK! Us DNA nerds have another tool to use in our DNA test analysis. Just plug in the total shared centiMorgans (cMs) and the longest shared cemtiMorgans for one of your matches and it will give you a relationship prediction.

INFORMATION ON THE SEPTEMBER GENCOM DNA INTEREST GROUP MEETING

Our next GENCOM DNA Interest Group meeting will be Wednesday 9 September at 1:30 PM in the large meeting room at the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive. We will be concentrating on DNA test results from AncestryDNA. AnestryDNA has recently added features such as DNA Circles, New Ancestor Discoveries and Shared Matches to their web site. We will be looking at each of these tools and see how they can help us find more information about our DNA cousins. If you have tested using the Autosomal DNA test at Ancestry you will find this information essential to your DNA research.

ANOTHER DNA TEST SALE FROM ANCESTRYDNA!!!!!

Would you believe? - Another DNA test sale from Ancestry.  This sale is for $79 ($20 off regular price) and lasts until 17 August 2015.  Even though Ancestry leaves some things to be desired with the tools that they provide for analyzing your DNA tests, this is still a great deal to take advantage of.  You can test with Ancestry and then transfer the raw data to FTDNA for only $39.  This compares your results to both databases for a total cost of $118 instead of $198 at the regular prices.  If you need help transferring the raw data, I will be glad to help.  Click HERE to order the kit from AncestryDNA.

INFORMATION ON DNA TESTING COMPANIES AND THIRD PARTY TOOL SITES

This is a slide from the DNA presentation that I have prepared for the 26 July 2015 GENCOM meeting.  This is a graphic representation of the three testing companies and two third party tool sites.  The lines and arrows show the different ways and costs of transferring your raw data files to other other DNA sites.  The advantage to this is that your results are compared to a different data base (different testers), therefore you get more matches.  Plus, you get additional tools with FTDNA, GedMatch, and DNAGedcom that can be used to analyze your test results.  Come to our meeting Sunday and learn more about this and other helpful hints to enable you to use your DNA results to find more DNA cousins.

GENCOM DNA INTEREST GROUP WORKSHOP

GENCOM will hold a DNA Interest Group Workshop on Wednesday following our July meeting on Genetic Genealogy.
The purpose of this workshop is to work together with interested individuals to answer any questions they have about DNA testing and to assist those individuals who have tested in analyzing their test results and contacting their matches.  This meeting is free and open to the public.
